First Poster For J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness

It was announced a few weeks ago that movie-goers would be able to catch a glimpse of the next installment in the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek Into Darkness, in front of select IMAX screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in two weeks – the trailer will be attached to regular screenings of The Hobbit.  Today, we are treated to the first poster for the film.  Featuring what appears to be Benedict Cumberbatch’s character standing under the Enterprise logo’d ruins of a building, the poster looks eerily familiar to the teaser poster for The Dark Knight Rises.  Hit the jump to check out the new poster! Official Synopsis for Star Trek Into Darkness

After the news that the first nine minutes of J.J. Abrams’ next Star Trek installment, Star Trek Into Darkness,  will be attached to IMAX showings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey next month, and that the trailer will be attached to non-IMAX showings, the official synopsis for the film has been released.  Abrams has always done a great job of keeping his plots as secret as possible, but it looks like he and Paramount are amping up the marketing hype as these special IMAX footage screenings approach.  Things are looking interesting as Captain Kirk and company are going to be engaged in an intergalactic manhunt for a “one man weapon of mass destruction.”  Hit the jump to check out the synopsis. Catch the First 9 Minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness in IMAX 3D on December 14th

Other than a VERY short clip released a little over a month ago containing footage from the image above, fans have yet to see any significant footage from J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. Deadline is reporting that when fans make the trek to select IMAX theaters this December to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, they will be able to catch the first nine minutes of the next installment in the Star Trek franchise – there is still no word on when we will see the first trailer for the film.  Hit the jump to read more.
