At this point, it’s no secret that the 2015 film slate is chock full of highly anticipated blockbuster flicks – many of the superhero genre. To make the summer more interesting, Disney and Marvel have announced that they plan to move director Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man up nearly four months from its initial November 6th, 2015 release date to July 31st, 2015. The debate over the last two months between fanboys, fangirls, and well, the entire universe has centered upon the potential actors that will don the cape and cowl as the Dark Knight in the much anticipated Man of Steel sequel. Now that Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder have announced that acclaimed actor/director Ben Affleck will be the next Caped Crusader, rumors about other actors approached for the role have come to light. At long last, and to the liking of many a fanboy across the world, at San Diego’s Comic-Con yesterday, Warner Bros. and Man of Steel director Zack Snyder officially announced the inevitable: Superman and Batman will simultaneously grace the big screen in 2015. The news comes fresh off the heels of the great – and still ongoing – box office success of Snyder’s Man of Steel. You can rub your eyes and blink all you want, you read that title right. Reports suggest that Christopher Nolan is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to come back for more Batman and completely take over as the godfather of the DC cinematic universe. Nolan is currently attached as a producer on this summer’s Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel, and could possibly return as a hands-on producer for the Justice League film. Excited enough yet? Well, grab new underwear now, because this would continue the Nolanverse and Christian Bale is reportedly expected to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman. Warner Bros. superhero mash up Justice League is back in the news today, and not for the right reasons. After Marvel and The Avengers cracked the $1 billion mark last summer, it looks like WB is starting to feel the pressure. I couldn’t help but be extremely disappointed when news broke today that Warner Bros. is reportedly scrapping Will Beall’s script. I’m not saying that I’m disappointed because I’m a Will Beall fan or anything – I thought Gangster Squad’s script was less than stellar – I’m just disappointed because it’s starting to look more and more like the Justice League movie may not happen for a long time. Slowly, but surely, details on the Justice League film are unraveling. The hottest rumor going around the web was whether or not The Dark Knight Rises’ star Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be the next Batman in the film – which has basically been debunked. Today, Warner Home Entertainment released the first clip for The Dark Knight Returns: Part 2. Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns is widely regarded as one of the best graphic novels of all time, and Part 1 of Warner Bros.’ animated adaptation was a rousing success. It has been five short months since The Dark Knight Rises hit theaters in July, but with the release of the DVD last Tuesday, it’s still being talked about. There’s no doubt that TDKR was one of the biggest films of the year, and it may be the most talked about film of the year. Over the last few weeks, Warner Bros. has been marketing for the DVD release, and they have also been making a strong push for TDKR’s awards consideration. The WB “For Your Consideration” campaign has seen the release of multiple posters showcasing categories that the studio believes TDKR should receive a nomination for (Golden Globes, Academy Awards).
