First Trailer for José Padilha’s ROBOCOP Remake
The first full-length trailer for director José Padilha’s upcoming RoboCop remake has been released online. I’m too young to have a real connection with the original three RoboCop films, but it was something that I always enjoyed watching as a kid. That being said, I think that’s the reason why I was impressed with the new trailer for the 2014 remake – as many fans are griping on the internet about the newest iteration of the franchise. One thing that can be said is that the film is sure to offer fans plenty of nods and callbacks to the 1987 original while offering a new take and spin on the character. Joel Kinnaman stars as Alex Murphy, a charismatic police officer in Detroit in the year 2028 who is offered the opportunity to become part man, part police officer after being critically injured in the line of duty. RoboCop stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel, and Jackie Earle Haley and hits theaters February 7th, 2014.
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.
