The Academy Unviels Shortlist for Best Visual Effects

Earlier today, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officially released their shortlist of contenders for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.  The list includes The Dark Knight Rises, Life of Pi, Cloud Atlas, Marvel’s The Avengers, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.  The list is comprised of some great work from top to bottom, with the exception of one or two movies.  Historically, a film with serious Best Picture chances walks away with the Oscar for Best Visual Effects (Hugo, Titanic, Gladiator, Return of the King, Avatar, Inception).  At the moment, the only film on the list garnering enough attention for Best Picture is Ang Lee’s Life of Pi.  Hit the jump to check out the full list.
