First Trailer & Poster for ELYSIUM Starring Matt Damon & Jodie Foster – Plus Two New Images
The first trailer for director Neill Blomkamp‘s sci-fi epic Elyisum has been released online. Let me start by saying this – it’s absolutely stunning. Neill Blomkamp’s last outing, District 9, was fantastic – but imagine having that with big stars (Matt Damon, Jodie Foster) and a couple hundred million dollars to blow on a budget. The film takes place in 2159 where two classes of divided people exist: the extremely wealthy who inherit the privilege to live on a man-made space station called Elysium, leaving the rest of humanity to live on the overpopulated planet Earth. The trailer shows off stunning visuals in what looks to be a vast world that Blomkamp has created. The futuristic world and story seem to mirror many of the issues humanity is facing today. Hmmm….very interesting. Along with the trailer is the first poster and some new images from the film. Hit the jump to take a look.
Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Shalto Copley, William Fichtner, Alice Braga, and Diego Luna and hits theaters this summer on August 9th.
“I need to get to Elysium.”
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
