Christopher Nolan in Talks to Oversee JUSTICE LEAGUE – Christian Bale Could Reprise Role as Batman
You can rub your eyes and blink all you want, you read that title right. Reports suggest that Christopher Nolan is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to come back for more Batman and completely take over as the godfather of the DC cinematic universe. Nolan is currently attached as a producer on this summer’s Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel, and could possibly return as a hands-on producer for the Justice League film. Excited enough yet? Well, grab new underwear now, because this would continue the Nolanverse and Christian Bale is reportedly expected to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman. Marvel’s superhero team up grossed over $1 billion at the box office – could you honestly think of a better way to counter that? Hit the jump to read more.
Thanks to El Mayimbe over at Latino Review, this is undoubtedly the biggest news of the young year.
Christopher Nolan is currently in talks with the studio to completely take over the DCU at WB with final say on what goes on with these superheroes. Christian Bale is reportedly expected to return and star alongside Henry Cavill who will reprise his role as Superman, with the possibility of adding other DC superheroes to the mix. Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder would team up as producers with Snyder possibly being attached to direct as well – presumably from a story devised from Nolan and David S. Goyer.
Keep in mind a quote from Christian Bale in Empire Magazine last year:
My understanding is that this [TDKR] is the last one. I think it’s appropriate, I think it’s going out at the right time. But…if Chris came to me with a script and said ‘You know what? There is another story’ then I would love the challenge of making a fourth one work.
With Nolan and Bale returning, WB will bring back the star power that is essential to attracting huge crowds at the box office – as if the characters themselves weren’t big enough. Nolan and Bale teamed up to give us films grossing over $1 billion two times for WB (The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises) – none of the individual Marvel movies ever came close to that. Man of Steel will undoubtedly produce huge box office numbers (Check out early screening reactions here), so teaming up Bale – who has an Oscar – with Cavill – who is on the verge of star status – will be exactly what WB is looking for coming off a Best Picture victory a few weeks ago with Argo.
There’s currently no word on what other heroes would be involved at this time. One possibility that isn’t out of the question is whether or not we will just see a Batman-Superman team up which would lay the framework for a Justice League film. A Justice League film with these names attached would garner gigantic box office numbers, with 3D and IMAX, where $2 billion is in the realm of possibility.
Can you see it now? During the Man of Steel credits, we see Superman meeting up with Bruce Wayne to discuss some sort of team up?
Keep in mind that all of this is still speculation, so sit back and wait for more details. Also keep in mind that Elmayimbe’s DCU track record is second to none, so I have high hopes for this one. It’s no secret that the good folks over at WB are ecstatic about Man of Steel, so if all of it is true, then MOS must really be up there with the best films of the year.

Nolan to be at the helm of Justice League? This I got to see.
Ain’t that the truth? As if I wasn’t already excited enough!
Very interesting news! If this happens then I would love it if Hathaway’s Catwoman could return as well!
I was thinking the same thing! This could turn out to be very interesting as more details unfold.
I wonder who will play Wonder Woman?
That’s a very interesting question. Assuming this is true, the question then would be whether or not they jump right into a JLA film, or if we see a Bats-Supes team up film first to set the stage.
