New Image from Lars Von Trier’s NYMPHOMANIAC
If you haven’t heard about Lars Von Trier’s upcoming erotic drama – yeah, that’s right, erotic drama – Nymphomaniac yet, you’re in for a treat. A new image from the film was released last night, and it definitely has some serious sexual implications. Nymphomaniac will center upon Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac who recounts her sexual encounters from birth to age 50 to Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård) after he finds her beaten up in an alley. In other news, Magnolia Pictures has acquired the film for distribution, and announced that they will be distributing the film in the U.S. Hit the jump to check out the new image and to read more about the film’s release.
Nymphomaniac stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen, Christian Slater, Jean-Marc Barr, and Udo Kier.
After premiering Melancholia at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, it doesn’t look like Von Trier will have the opportunity to premier Nymphomaniac at Cannes, seeing as it didn’t meet the deadline. The reason why Nymphomaniac is so unique is because all of the erotic scenes in the film will be 100% real. There will be both hardcore and softcore versions of the film that will be released, but there’s no word from Magnolia if both versions will be distributed or how they will be distributed. Very interesting to say the least.
NYMPHOMANIAC is the wild and poetic story of a woman’s journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe (Gainsbourg). On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming bachelor, Seligman (Skarsgård), finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life. He listens intently as Joe over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushy branched-out and multifaceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.
