Chris Pratt Lands Lead Role for Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Chris Pratt Guardians of the Galaxy Banner 2After swirling casting rumors surrounding Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, it looks like the search has come to an exhausting end.  According to Deadline, Chris Pratt, who never appeared on any of the shortlists of actors who could potentially nab the job, will play the role of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord.  Quill is an interplanetary policeman who was born to a human mother and an alien father and wears a suit that increases strength and durability while allowing him to travel through space.  Now that the lead role is filled, we might be seeing some other casting decisions very soon.  Hit the jump to read more.

As the most human character in a cooky list of heroes features in the Guardians, Quill is the audience’s best link to the world of the Guardians of the Galaxy.  I think the casting choice is fantastic, and seeing that Marvel was targeting the likes of Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey for other roles, it doesn’t surprise me that the lead will be a comical actor himself.  The most interesting part of all this was that Pratt’s name was never mentioned in discussions leading up to this news.

With the lead role now in place, Marvel and director James Gunn can now focus on piecing the film together.  I know I’m excited, and hopefully we’ll get some more news on Guardians of the Galaxy sooner rather than later.
