JJ Abrams to Direct STAR WARS: EPISODE VII
2013 is still very young, but we just received our biggest news of the year in film. As of yesterday, according to sources, Star Trek director JJ Abrams will helm the continuation of the Star Wars franchise for Star Wars: Episode VII. Now this has to be every nerd’s dream – directing Star Trek AND Star Wars!?!? Too awesome. Hit the jump to read more.
This news comes from the good folks over at The Wrap, who broke it yesterday afternoon. Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm and announced that they would be continuing the Star Wars franchise, there has been a plethora of conversation regarding who would take the reins. Rumors were swirling last month about the potential of Abrams taking on the franchise, which he repeatedly shot down, but so much for that. With the revival of the Star Trek franchise, Abrams is approaching immortal territory if he can bring Star Wars back to glory.
An interesting note is that according to sources, Ben Affleck was being considered to get the gig too. Either way, you can’t go wrong.
With Academy Award winner Michael Arndt behind the script, and JJ Abrams in the director’s chair, Star Wars: Episode VII could really be something special.
