Disney to Move Forward with Tron: Legacy Sequel – Hires New Screenwriter

Tron Legacy

Since Tron: Legacy was met with relative success – grossing $400 million worldwide – after it hit theaters in 2010, there has been a lot of talk about Disney continuing the story with more installments in the franchise.  Talks died down for a little bit, but it looks like moving forward with a sequel is back on track.  Disney Studios head Alan Horn stresses the importance of continuing the series “with a renewed urgency.”  Screenwriter Jesse Wigutow has been brought in by Disney to pen the new script – Wigutow is already working with Disney on Peter and the Starcatchers and is also involved in Relativity’s reboot of The Crow.

Director Joseph Kosinski is set to be at the helm for the next Tron film.  A timetable for production on the sequel has yet to be provided as the director is currently finishing up on Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise.  Stay tuned for more upcoming details.
