Warner Bros. Kicks Off Oscar Campaign – The Dark Knight Rises is First Film Showcased

It’s official, Oscar campaigning has begun.  Today, Warner Bros. launched a new website showcasing the films they will be pushing for Oscar consideration this awards season.  The first film being showcased is a personal favorite of mine, The Dark Knight Rises. Along with the website, WB issued a few new stills for the film.  Among the other films being considered are Argo, Cloud Atlas, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and Magic Mike. Hit the jump for more details.

Director Christopher Nolan’s first installment in his Batman reboot, Batman Begins, was nominated for one Oscar in the category of Best Cinematography in which Wally Pfister lost out to Dion Beebe (Memoirs of a Geisha).  2008’s The Dark Knight transcended the comic book genre by receiving eight Oscar nominations, winning two – most notably being Heath Ledger’s win in the Best Supporting Actor category.  Some of these considerations are certainly long shots, but some raise questions.  Will Christopher Nolan finally get a Best Director nomination?  Can a superhero film be a Best Picture nominee?  The nominations for the 85th Academy Awards aren’t announced until January 15th, 2013, so how do you think TDKR and the rest of the Warner Bros. group will fare?

Below is a list of the major categories Warner Bros. believes The Dark Knight Rises should receive nominations for:

Best Picture:Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan, Charles Roven

Best Director:Christopher Nolan

Best Adapted Screenplay:Screenplay by: Jonathon Nolan and Christopher Noaln. Story by: Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer
